Wakirike Boatyard Signs Export Deal to Supply Fibreglass Canoes to Ghana
By Sokari Fyneface· 6 July 2026
A boatyard that began fifteen years ago as a two-man workshop has signed its first international export contract, agreeing to supply fifty fibreglass canoes to fishing cooperatives along Ghana's coast.
Owner Fyneface Douglas said the shift from wood to fibreglass construction five years ago made the boats lighter, cheaper to maintain, and easier to export in bulk. 'We used to think export was for big companies only,' he said.
The company plans to double its workforce over the next year to meet the new order alongside existing local demand.
