Federal Government Approves ₦40bn Coastal Road Project Linking Wakirike Communities
The road will connect six riverine wards currently reachable only by boat.
The Federal Ministry of Works has approved a ₦40 billion coastal road project that will, for the first time, connect six riverine wards of Wakirike Kingdom by land. Residents have relied on boats and canoes for decades to reach the state capital.
Traditional ruler Amanyanabo Similarly Fyneface welcomed the announcement at a town hall meeting, calling it 'the single biggest infrastructure decision of our generation.' Contractors are expected to begin site clearing within eight weeks.
Community leaders say the road will cut travel time to the state capital from four hours by boat to under ninety minutes by car, and could open the area to new investment in fishing exports and tourism.
