Toronto Chapter Raises $85,000 for Girl-Child Scholarship Fund

The Toronto chapter of the Wakirike diaspora association raised $85,000 at its annual fundraising gala, with proceeds earmarked entirely for a girl-child scholarship fund back home.

This year's gala drew over 300 attendees, including guests from Wakirike associations in Chicago and Houston who traveled in for the event.

'Every year we ask ourselves how we stay useful to home from this far away. Scholarships are the clearest answer we've found,' said chapter president Inime Fyneface.
