The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged its supporters in Cross River State to remain calm after its governorship candidate was omitted from the final list released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The party attributed the omission to a bureaucratic error and expressed confidence that the matter would be resolved. However, the supplied report contains no explanation from INEC confirming the cause or indicating whether the list will be amended.

Eight Parties Listed

The list, released on Saturday for the February 6, 2027 governorship election, featured candidates from eight political parties.

They are the All Progressives Congress (APC), All Peoples Party (APP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), National Rescue Movement (NRM), Labour Party (LP), Action Alliance (AA), Action Democratic Party (ADP) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) was also absent from the list. The report did not provide a reason for its omission.

Party Seeks Resolution

The NDC Chairman in Cross River, Mr Goddie Akpama, said the party had contacted the relevant authorities, including its national secretariat, and received assurances that the matter was being addressed.

“We have since contacted the relevant authorities, including our national secretariat, over the issue and have been told that it is being sorted out,” he said.

Akpama expressed confidence that the party’s governorship candidate would be restored to the list within the week. That expectation remains the party’s position, pending confirmation from INEC.

He urged supporters to continue campaigning for all NDC candidates, including its governorship candidate, and to take the party’s message to communities across the state.

The omission leaves supporters awaiting clarification on the candidate’s status. An explanation from INEC would establish the reason for the exclusion and whether any correction is due.
