In Photos: Masquerade Dancers Light Up New Year Festival
By Sokari Fyneface· 3 July 2026
Masquerade dancers in elaborate raffia and cloth costumes led this year's New Year festival procession, drawing crowds from across the kingdom and neighbouring communities.
The masquerades, each representing a different age grade society, performed choreographed routines passed down through generations of dancers.
Organisers say attendance this year was the highest in over a decade, aided by improved road access to the festival grounds.
